PLAYBOUNDTM POURED-IN-PLACE
Playgrounds, Water Play Areas

Product Data:

General
  • Field applied in any configuration and dimensions
  • Two layer system - base mat of SBR & urethane and top surface of EPDM & urethane
  • Typical top surface 1/2" nominal thickness over various base mat thicknesses
  • Tapered edges formed on-site as required

Features
  • Dual density construction
  • Porous design
  • Custom designs available - logos, shapes, games, etc.

Colors
  • Red, green, beige, brown, blue, teal, purple, gold, yellow, orange, gray & black
  • Combination of colors in any ratio available

Color Consideration
  • Available Colors - terra cotta red, blue, teal, orange, purple, 3 shades of green, yellow, 2 shades of gray, beige, gold, brown, pearl and black.
  • Any of these colors can be mixed in combination with another color or mixture of colors to achieve a blended, speckled look.
  • May we suggest one of our standard combinations? Everglade, Camouflage, Sierra, Sea Breeze, and Confetti (as featured in our Catalog on page 10).
  • A percentage of black mixed with a color or multiple colors camouflages dirt and reduces the price. All other factors being equal, the higher the percentage of black in the top surface mix, the lower the price.

URETHANE'S EFFECT ON COLOR
Throughout the industry, the urethane binder which encapsulates the granules is produced in two forms: aromatic (standard) and aliphatic (special order). With the selection of certain colors or color combinations, such as solid blues and solid grays, it is recommended that aliphatic (special order) binder be considered for the top surface, so the desired color of the completed installation is achieved after exposure to ultraviolet rays. This is the case because aliphatic binder remains clear, unlike aromatic binder, which takes on a 3yellow tinge2 after exposure to ultraviolet rays. This 3yellow tinge2 lessens with use and over time. Throughout the industry, aliphatic binder is sold at an upcharge, which increases the unit price of the system. Ask about details.

Note 1: It is never required to use aliphatic (non-yellowing) binder, but advisable to consider its use with some colors and color combinations, namely blues and grays. With most colors, the "yellow tinge" is imperceptible.

Note 2: Surface America never recommends using aliphatic (non-yellowing) binder in the base mat portion of the system because the benefit of its use is aesthetic, which is not an issue in the unexposed base mat layer.
THESE FACTORS APPLY INDUSTRY WIDE!

Installation Overview

  • Where necessary, typically around playground perimeter and on playground equipment poles, mix urethane binder 1 to 1 with M.E.K. (Methyl Ethyl Keytone) or use 100% urethane to prime.
  • Mix SBR granules and urethane binder in a ratio (by weight) of 88% granules to 12% binder.
  • Trowel mixture over base, applying at a rate of approximately 31 lbs. 13 oz. total weight per cubic foot. Determine thickness (in inches) of base mat and divide by twelve to compute weight per square foot. Allow to cure.
  • Mix urethane binder 1 to 1 with M.E.K., or apply 100% urethane binder, and prime base mat. If base mat is tacky when top surface is applied, there is no need to prime.
  • Mix EPDM granules and urethane binder in a ratio (by weight) of 82% granules to 18% binder.
  • Trowel mixture over base mat, applying at a rate of 2.44 lbs. per square foot.
